We would like to thank the Lawrence community for the outstanding support of the Lawrence Arts Center’s 37th Annual Benefit Art Auction. We greatly appreciate it! This year’s Auction raised over $173,275 that will directly support our Exhibitions Program. We also raised $44,750 in donations specifically for our visiting and resident artist fund and our project-based residencies. Please visit our website under “Residencies and Resources” for more information about these opportunities.
Art sales during the silent and live auctions averaged 8% above retail price. We encourage purchasing original art year around, and we see the auction as one facet of expanding this audience while making our year round exhibitions of art possible. The auction also makes publications, art talks, demonstrations, installations, and related films part of the life of the community.
This year’s Auction, featuring the donated work of 170 artists, was sponsored by Edmonds Duncan, Emprise Bank, and Intrust Bank and supported by in-kind donations from businesses, including: Biemer’s BBQ, Bittersweet Floral & Design, Boulevard Brewing Company, Checkers, City Wine Market, Evan Williams Catering, Free State Brewing Company, Hang the Moon Designs, Mainline Printing, Lawrence Business Magazine, Sunflower Rentals, Paden Photography, and Fastframes. Raise the Paddle was sponsored by Sarah’s Fabrics. We estimate that over 600 people attended.
Please consider buying original art to support the work of visual artists throughout the year – if you really wanted a piece and didn’t win, we know the artists want to hear from you. You can find the websites of our contributing artists here, reach out and buy a piece from them –
Plan to join us April 14, 2018 for our Benefit Auction with our Featured Artist Justin Marable and many other artists.
