Our stARTup program is accelerating quickly! The cohort began September 6 with 12 students from local high schools and has been working diligently through the year to refine their craft and vision. They began work on studio practices at the Arts Center and focused on making pieces missing from their portfolio. They met with KU and KCAI to get feedback and began to devise a solo show for Spring.
While learning valuable entrepreneurial skills such as website development, grant and scholarship writing, show setup, pricing art, talking to galleries, and more, the students further refined their concepts into pieces for their solo show. They have worked with a multitude of local artists, educators, and business professionals trying to engage the public with their work and the time has nearly arrived. The program culminates with solo exhibitions at downtown galleries for the April and May Final Fridays in Lawrence. Come join the party and meet these emerging artists at their shows.
