This summer’s Free State Festival is just around the corner and the talent is lining up! June 20-25 will bring a full slate of independent films, music performances, ideas speakers & art installations to Lawrence, both here at the Arts Center and in our partnering venues. This year’s headliners include Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Public Enemy, American Comedy Award winner Maria Bamford and MacArthur Genius Award winner Jad Abumrad.
Maria Bamford kicks off the festival on Monday, June 20 with a stand-up comedy performance and a short film screening with Q&A. Radio Lab founder Jad Abumrad will give a thought provoking multimedia presentation on the creative process called Gut Churn on Saturday, June 25 and legendary hip hop group Public Enemy will close out the festival later that evening with a FREE outdoor concert right outside our doors here at 9th and New Hampshire St! There will also be many visiting and local filmmakers, artists and speakers to keep you inspired and entertained throughout the week.
Tickets & passes go on sale May 1 on the Free State Festival website, so check back for a full schedule of activities and art experiences to choose from.
