The Lawrence Arts Center is thrilled to introduce our 2023-2024 Artists-in-Residence: Rachel Beer and Dehmie Dehmlow. Each August, our new residents join us to spend a year working in our studios, teaching, offering workshops for our community, and developing new bodies of work. They infuse our building with enthusiasm, extensive skills, and experience in ceramics and printmaking. They bring fresh ideas and new perspectives to our community and help spur conversations about contemporary practices in art and craft. Join us in welcoming them to our community!
Rachel Beer | Printmaking Artist-in-Residence
Rachel Beer is a visual artist based in the Midwest. She received her BFA in drawing and printmaking from the University of Oklahoma in May of 2019. She graduated with her MFA in printmaking from Northern Illinois University in May of 2023 and was recently selected as the 2023/2024 Printmaking Artist in Residence at the Lawrence Arts Center in Kansas. Rachel’s work has been exhibited throughout the Midwest and internationally. Her practice is founded in a love of drawing, and she extends this love into the mediums of printmaking by combining the lively qualities of woodblock and monotype printing with the delicacy of graphite and lithography. Influenced by her experiences navigating invisible illness/disability, her work explores the fluctuations between her internal and external ecosystems, with the purpose of drawing attention towards the small and often overlooked moments of regeneration that reside within these disturbed environments.
