Ceramics Artist-in-Residence Christy Wittmer, has an MFA from the University of Cincinnati and has completed residencies at the Pottery Workshop in Jingdezhen, China and the Banff Centre in Alberta, Canada.
She was recently awarded a prestigious Fulbright grant award to spend close to a year in China’s “Porcelain Capital,” documenting innovations in traditional and contemporary ceramic sculpture.
Wittmer’s new exhibit, Clean Spaces, is now on display in the Arts Center middle gallery through July 23. The title refers to Wittmer’s signature sleek aesthetic and invites views to take close looks at delicately balanced terrains habit of stacking or layering objects in an oftentimes-precarious fashion.
“There’s a “push and pull to it… wanting to get close to a piece but not wanting to knock it over.” – Christy Wittmer / from the Lawrence Journal-World
