Artist INC Returns to the Lawrence Arts Center | Apply by November 6

The Lawrence Arts Center is pleased to announce the return of Artist INC Live Lawrence, an eight-week professional training seminar for artists working in every medium. Funded in part by the Kansas Creative Arts Industries Commission, Artist INC’s third Lawrence session will beginning in January 2019 and run through early March.

Artist INC was developed collaboratively by Mid-America Arts Alliance and the University of Missouri–Kansas City Innovation Center. Limited to twenty-five participants per seminar, artists gather for one night a week for eight weeks to learn business skills specific to their art practice and apply those skills cooperatively with their peers. Artist INC assists artists at all stages of their career through building creative and financial strategies. The topics covered during this seminar include business and budgeting advice for independent makers, social media outreach, strengthening writing skills, seeking collaboration opportunities, the interaction of art and law, and establishing personal goals.

Artist INC Live Lawrence facilitators include storyteller Priscilla Howe, visual artist Molly Murphy, writer Molly Krause, musician Kirsten Paludan, and artist Kent Smith.

Kate Horvat, Lawrence Arts Center Print Studio Coordinator and Artist INC Live Lawrence administrator, explains, “A career in the arts is much like any other career – there is not a ‘one-size-fits-all’ solution. Artist INC is designed to help artists define what success means to them and help them gather the tools to achieve their goals. The best thing about Artist INC is that it helps foster a professional community of artists. The possibilities within a group of multi-disciplinary artists are endless.”

Artist INC Live Lawrence will take place Tuesday evenings, 6 PM to 9 PM at the Lawrence Arts Center from January 15th to March 5th, 2019. Interested artists are invited to join the Artist INC Live Lawrence Facebook for program updates, and to apply now.
