Our current slate of exhibitions – Jos Sances’s Or, The Whale; Jeff Weinberg’s Table Pieces; and Leon Richmond’s Theater of the Absurdo – have been so popular for socially distant viewing that we’ve decided to keep them around for another month! So if you haven’t made it in to the galleries yet or just need to experience that magnificent whale one more time (because don’t we all?), we have you covered. These three beautiful shows are here through October 24 for you to see at your leisure.
And if you don’t feel comfortable visiting in-person, that’s okay, too! We have virtual experiences including 3D tours and art talks for you to enjoy.
A Whale of An Art Talk: Jos Sances and Elizabeth Schultz LIVE
September 25, 5pm, FREE on Youtube and FacebookLIVE
Sances’s 50-foot scratchboard whale currently encompasses the entire wall of the Arts Center’s large gallery. It has captivated viewers with its intricate depictions of capitalism in America and the human and environmental exploitation in its wake. In this Final Friday virtual event, Sances will be joined by internationally acclaimed Herman Melville scholar/ KU Professor Emeritas Elizabeth Schultz for a thoughtful conversation exploring the themes represented in the artwork as well as its connections to the literary masterpiece, Moby-Dick: Or, The Whale.
