CEO Margaret Weisbrod Morris, along with Steve Nowak of Watkins Museum of History and Mary Doveton of Theatre Lawrence, updated Douglas County, Kansas Government this week on how COVID-19 is impacting our arts and culture organizations. Among the powerful statistics shared in this presentation, only one in three cultural organizations is expected to survive the pandemic. The arts are critical to the economic prosperity of our community and invigorate our lives in the areas of mental health, wellness and social impact.
These three cultural organizations have also shared this information with the City of Lawrence’s Cultural Arts Commission who have presented this letter of support to the City Commission.
We invite you to watch the video recording of the Douglas County Commission presentation, read the LCAC letter, visit the Americans for the Arts Impact Report, visit our arts advocacy page and help spread the word to your elected officials about how public funding can help #SaveTheArts.
And remember, arts advocacy is an ongoing (and rewarding) grassroots process. Communities with vocal arts support see benefits in health, academic performance, economies, tourism, and innovation. Share your story often and from the heart!
