When Tracey Lien, a University of Kansas graduate student, found out she was one of two people receiving the Langston Hughes Creative Writing Award, she was thrilled.
“The judges not only read my work, they liked it too,” Lien said. “Writing can be such a solitary activity, so it was incredibly gratifying to hear that some people had such a positive response to something I’d written.”
