The Big 10 Print Exchange
Lawrence Arts Center
September 13 – October 19
For our Inaugural Print Week, we are excited to exhibit The Big Ten Print Exchange portfolio created by our very own artist-in-resident John McCaughey in the fall of 2010. It serves two goals: to establish a lasting dialogue amongst the participating universities as well as a platform for discussing the direction printmaking is headed in the larger sphere of contemporary art. Going into its fourth year, the exchange successfully displays the diversity of talent between the schools. Named after the athletic conference, The Big Ten coincidentally has some of the most respected printmaking programs in the country. One student was chosen by a faculty member at each university to represent their program in the print exchange.

The owners and operators of Midwest Pressed, Aaron Wilson and Tim Dooley, teach printmaking and foundations at the University of Northern Iowa. Their artwork is primarily known for using the printmaking medium in an experimental fashion that includes sculptural applications and installations. Apart from their individual works, they have collaborated on an extensive body of artwork that has been shown widely around the United States. The pair have also been visiting artists at many institutions around the nation where they have given workshops and lectures pertaining to their work and contemporary printmaking. Their work is featured in a number of recent publications on printmaking such as The Complete Engraver, Princeton Architectural Press, 2012, Printmaking: A Complete Guide to Materials and Processes, Prentice Hall, 2009, and A Survey of Contemporary Printmaking, Ladymuse, 2012.
