Art Auction 2021 Meet the Artist: Javy Ortiz

CLR-BLoK

Welcome to the third in a series of interviews by local artist and 2021 Benefit Art Auction afficionado Grace Eason, featuring the generous donating artists who have created pieces for this year’s event!

Today I am thrilled to feature Javy Ortiz, a local artist originally from Juarez, Mexico, who is new to the Art Auction this year. Ortiz’s vibrant piece is currently up for bid online here. Ortiz said he was as elated as I was when asked to participate in this year’s event.

I was very excited to donate a piece of art to the Lawrence Arts Center for the annual art auction. I’m happy to share my work to benefit our community’s creative resources. My donated piece is titled CLR-BLoK. It is a mixed media painting I made as a part of my {e}MoT!0N$ series. My ultimate goal with this series is to stimulate the visual senses of my audience by expressing energy and motion with the layering of different techniques and materials. This particular painting is open to interpretation, but I like to think of it as an explosion that failed to be contained. I have a lot of fun mixing order and chaos to create a sense of freedom.

Ortiz’s exuberance is palpable in this piece, and I particularly love the way it incorporates the frame into the art itself. More of his work can be found here at his website. We are so grateful for his contribution to the 2021 Benefit Art Auction!
