Hello and Happy December! Check out what we’ve got coming up this month and take a sneak peek at our plans for the new year.
First up, don’t miss out on The Nutcracker, A Kansas Ballet. Experience the charm of this Lawrence Arts Center production, running December 7-9 and 14-16. A winter family favorite, The Nutcracker, A Kansas Ballet is based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s original story and set in Kansas during the Civil War. Witness the magic and wonder of this story as Drosselmeyer and Clara defeat the Mouse King and liberate the Nutcracker from his enchanted form.
Wondering what we will be up to in the new year? We’re calling all actors, singers, and dancers ages 8 and up to audition for Oliver! on January 5th. After running away from the orphanage run by the heartless Mr. Bumble, Oliver meets the Artful Dodger and is recruited to pick pockets for Fagin. There, Oliver finds a friend in Nancy, but neither she nor the boy is fit for a life of crime. Check out our audition page for details regarding the schedule and what to prepare for your audition.
Also coming your way in January is our next production in the Theatre and Dance for the Very Young program, Goodnight Moon. Join us to experience a new musical adaptation of Margaret Wise Brown’s classic story on January 24-27. In this wild adventure, the objects and characters jump off the pages, and the bunny’s bedroom comes to life. Suddenly, the cat and the fiddle, red balloon, clocks and socks, kittens and mittens, and the cow jumping over the moon are just a few of many springing into action. Developed in our Play Lab series, many of the designs you will see on stage were created with very young children as artistic partners in the process (check out a young artist in action in our featured image above). Proceeds from this performance support the Preschool/Kindergarten Financial Aid Fund.
