Through a grant by the Kriz Charitable Foundation, the John Talleur Printmaking studio at the Lawrence Arts Center has undergone major changes over the past year. A renovation nearly doubled the working space of the studio, and a new Takach Etching Press triples print size capabilities.
Along with the renovated studio, we launched Ad Astra Editions, a professional press for publishing fine art print editions with visiting artists. Proceeds from the sale will go directly towards funding LAWRENCE PRINT WEEK, taking place in the fall of 2017. This is a biennial weeklong event that features a print fair, print exhibits, demonstrations, presentations, studio visits, and more. The project brings together the many artists, organizations, and galleries in Lawrence Kansas to share this rich medium. LAWRENCE PRINT WEEK has been a partnership with the Lawrence Arts Center, Wonder Fair, University of Kansas School of Art, and the Spencer Museum of Art.
Bio for Ad Astra Editions Inaugural Artist, Jennifer Davis
Jennifer Davis is a Minneapolis-based artist known for her imaginative paintings of surreal creatures and whimsical characters. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions at venues such as The Minneapolis Institute of Arts (Minneapolis, MN); The DeVos Art Museum (Marquette, MI); Soo Visual Arts Center (Minneapolis, MN); Foster Museum (Eau Claire, WI); Lesher Center for the Arts (San Francisco, CA); and Turchin Center for the Visual Arts (Boone, NC), as well as several galleries in major cities across the United States. Davis is a recipient of the 2013 Next Step Fund Grant from the Minnesota Regional Arts Council/McKnight Foundation. She holds a BFA from the University of Minnesota.
