With the help of wonderful friends from Independence Inc., the Lawrence Arts Center welcomed students on Tuesday, October 24 to job shadow staff members in the fields of visual art, graphic design, marketing and digital media. Adult Education Director Neal Barbour, Graphic Designer Amy Albright, Associate Director of Marketing Kathryn Clark and New Media Director Marlo Angell spent the morning taking students along on their jobs as part of the national Mentoring Day program. This important event promotes career development for job seekers with disabilities through hands-on career exploration. Since 2001, Lawrence’s program has matched 684 youth representing Douglas, Jefferson and Franklin counties with mentors to learn about various professions/industries.
Fun fact: Our very own Office Manager, Jennifer Donnelly, helped spearhead this program in Lawrence when it first started!
Many thanks to Jennifer, Independence Inc., participating staff and the talented students who spent time with us this week.
