As the summer session winds down, we are preparing for a leadership transition in the School of Dance. Dance Program Director Hanan Misko moves on this fall to a new position as Education Director at the Lied Center of Kansas. For the past eleven years, Hanan has brought joy through the art of movement with his thoughtful approach to dance education and his creative direction of high quality performances for the community. While his leadership will be sincerely missed, we are thrilled to share that Hanan will continue to be a familiar face as a teacher at the Arts Center!
Moving into the leadership role will be Claire Buss as Interim Dance Program Director. Claire has been with the Lawrence Arts Center as a teaching artist and Dance Program Coordinator since graduating from the University of Kansas in 2022. Please join us in welcoming Claire and congratulating Hanan on his next adventure at the 40th Year Celebration on August 23!
“Over the past 11 years, I’ve been inspired to look beyond just my role. Surrounded by teachers, administrators, supporters, and artists all committed to helping the arts thrive, I felt not only at home, but called to give others the same opportunity I had found through dance. It’s been my privilege to welcome thousands of dancers into the LAC studios, to retain and support many long-standing faculty, and to help bring both original and re-envisioned productions to the stage.”
