A community world building experience for the University of Kansas and Lawrence community

Call for Artists: Afrorithms From the Future

This call is open to proposals for works of art in any medium (paint, ceramics, metal, textiles, video, music, multimedia, etc.) and artists of all ages are invited to apply. Artists should consider items from a future era that reveal the cultures of that time’s particular needs, values, and desires or items from the present that will resonate in particularly interesting ways for future communities! These artifacts will be displayed at the Lawrence Arts Center from Sept 17 – 25, 2024.

Proposals must be submitted digitally/by email and may be accompanied by up to three (3) PDF images representing the artist’s previous work or vision for the project. Email your proposal. Only one submission per applicant. It is free to submit. Proposal entries are due: July 8th, 2024 at 5 pm.

Proposals must include:
– Media medium;
– Anticipated Height, Width, Depth, and Weight of the final piece;
– Budget (See below for more details.)
– Description of how proposed piece connects with the theme of “Imagining Our Futures”

A jury will select a variety of proposals and provide up to $300 funding for each, to create an exhibition that demonstrates the variety of ways people from diverse backgrounds and experiences contemplate the future.
