Welcoming Our New Artists-in-Residence

The Lawrence Arts Center is proud to announce that Wabwila Mugala and Jason Wang are our 2025-26 Artists-in-Residence. Every year, two talented artists are selected to create new work while teaching and sharing their expertise with students, patrons and the wider community. Wabwila and Jason will officially begin their residencies in mid-August of 2025.

Wabwila Mugala, Printmaking Artist-in-Residence

Wabwila Mugala is a Zambian born interdisciplinary artist with a focus on print processes grounded in design and textiles. She received her BFA in New Media and Design at UNC Greensboro and MFA in Printmaking from Arizona State University (2025). Her practice engages with the call-and-response within the African diaspora through her own visual glossary functioning as pattern, design and language. Recent shows and exhibitions include her solo exhibition In the Fold (2025) in Arizona and Of Natal Lands (2024) in South Carolina. She has been featured in Southwest Contemporary Magazine: Radical Futures (Volume 10) and AIGA Charlotte.

Ceramics Artist in Residence 2025-26: Jason Wang

Jason Wang is a visual artist originally from Kansas City. Jason earned a BFA from the Kansas City Art Institute in 2020, and in 2021 was a resident at the Northern Clay Center in Minneapolis, MN. In 2025, Jason received his MFA in Ceramics from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio. His practice is deeply informed by the social aspect of pottery; through an exploration into dinnerware vessels, he strives to foster conversation and build community. This dedication to community engagement led him to co-found the very first 2025 Ohio University Atmospheric Conference.

A Fond Farewell to our Artists-in-Residence 2024-25

We are so thankful for our outgoing resident artists and all their hard work over the past year. Gabriel John Poucher, our ceramic resident, organized a Queer Ecology Symposium and exhibition during his residency. Gabriel accepted a position as the Turner Teaching Fellow at Alfred University next year. Our printmaking resident, Anthony Corraro, had multiple solo exhibitions at institutions in the region and spoke at the Mid America Print Council during his residency. Anthony will be joining the Kansas City Art Institute as a Foundations Lecturer this fall, and we hope that he’ll be returning as an instructor at the Arts Center soon since he is staying in the region. We wish them both all the best as their careers continue to grow and flourish!
