Call for Entries: Edible Ink

Food and print have a delicious history. From engraved botanical diagrams to Pop Art’s screen printed commercial grocery items, printmaking methods have been used to represent food for scientific inquiry, advertising, artistic appeal, and more. Images of ingredients, culinary consumables, specimens, still life feasts, depictions of rituals and traditions surrounding eating, or calls for food equity and advocacy are invited for submission for this Print Portfolio Exchange and Lawrence Arts Center Visual Arts fundraiser.

We Want You!

15 regional artists are invited to submit food themed prints in any printmaking medium for the 2020 JTPS Edible Ink portfolio exchange and exhibition. Participating artists will generate an edition of 17 prints, 15 for inclusion and trade among artists contributing to the group portfolio, 1 print for donation, exhibition, and sale in the LAC Lower Lobby Gallery, with sale proceeds donated to funding for Visual Arts Education, and 1 print for retention in the JTPS archives. Print format for submission: 12” x 16”. Both vertical and horizontal orientations will be accepted.

Held in conjunction with the Lawrence Arts Center’s Souper Bowl 2020 Visual Arts Fundraiser, the full print portfolio will be on display in the Lawrence Arts Center Lower Lobby Gallery during the event on Saturday, February 1st. A final Friday opening on Friday, January 31st, will coincide with the Souper Bowl Preview Party. The exhibition will be on public view until February 25th.

To Apply:

Email Print Coordinator Anne Luben at anne@lawrenceartscenter.org with a short prospectus, 500 words or less, detailing intent for participation, chosen print medium, and how your envisioned print responds to the theme of Edible Ink. Participation in the portfolio will be limited to 15 artists. Accepted artists must submit finished print editions by Monday, January 20, 2020.
