Digital & Analog: New Teen Visual Arts Classes

Explore Teen Digital Arts & Photography

This fall, the Lawrence Arts Center is excited to offer a fresh lineup of Teen Digital Arts and Photography classes, where students can sharpen their creative skills and discover new ways to tell stories and express themselves through new and old creative tools.

One of the most exciting additions is our new digital illustration class, Digital Art on the Go, taught by professional illustrator, Yekyoung Kim on Thursdays starting September 11 at 4pm. Students will break out from our typical classes in the Digital Media Lab, and get out and create around the building and walkable locations from the Arts Center. Armed with iPads, Apple Pencils, and Procreate (a leading digital illustration software), students will explore sketching and illustration in real-world settings thanks to the portability of iPads.

Procreate is widely recognized as the leading drawing app for iPads, trusted by professional illustrators, designers, and animators worldwide. Known for its intuitive interface, realistic brushes, and powerful creative tools, Procreate makes digital drawing feel as natural as working with pen and paper while offering endless possibilities for layering, color, and editing.

Our Teen Visual Arts program also features darkroom photography taught by professional photographer Ann Dean on Wednesdays at 4pm starting September 17. From camera basics to composition and old-school editing, these classes help students capture compelling images and tell their own stories with confidence. Learn how to read a light meter, develop your own film, and print pictures through the magic and chemistry of the photographic darkroom.
