In this special camp, we will explore the beauty of prairie ecosystems through blended Dance and Visual Arts instruction. Campers will learn about the diverse plants and animals of the North American plains to make art and move our bodies in ways inspired by prairie dogs, bison, meadowlarks, and more. At the end of the week, we’ll debut our grassland dances and artworks to our family and friends with a special performance.

Decorate a plate with your own design as we consider color, pattern and balance while learning to carefully apply underglazes to make colorful compositions good enough to eat off.

This camp will introduce students the skills to create a pot on the wheel as we practice creating functional forms. When not on the wheel, students will have opportunity to explore hand-building techniques to create small objects and sculptures.

Go beyond the surface of ceramic decoration as we learn different ways to bring color and style to handbuilt ceramic forms. We'll learn to easily transfer designs from our sketchbook onto clay, create carved and impressed textures, and add color and pattern with slips and underglaze.

Use simple handbuilding techniques to quickly shape flat clay slabs into functional mugs with some character. We'll also learn to pull and attach handles, create texture and brush on pattern designs with colorful clay slips.
