Dehmie Dehmlow

23/24 Ceramics Artist-in-Residence


Dehmie Dehmlow grew up in Denver, Colorado. She makes pottery and mixed media modular sculptures that tell stories using found materials, ceramics, and other fabricated objects. Dehmie creates depth in her pots using layers of color and texture. She loves to teach ceramics and sculpture. She earned her BA in Ceramics and Pre-Medical Sciences from Colorado State University. In addition to ceramics Dehmie's background is in caregiving for elderly and adults with disabilities. Dehmie was a ceramics intern at Anderson Ranch Arts Center in Colorado before she was selected as the 2019 Salad Days Artist in Residence at Watershed Center for Ceramic Arts in Maine. Dehmie then completed a Post-Baccalaureate program at Louisiana State University. She received her MFA from University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 2022 and completed a residency at PrattMWP (New York), in May of 2023. Dehmie enjoys being outside with her dog, Hadlee, and observing the world and people around her.

Students will learn basic building techniques through pinch pots, coiling, and slab construction and then transition into more advanced forming and surface decoration techniques.

This class is intended to round out your ceramics know how! We will focus on the behind the scenes tasks that make producing ceramic work possible like how to mix a glaze, what makes up a clay body, how to load a kiln and even simple repairs on electric kilns. We will discuss the different types of kilns and firing processes possible as well as the differences between firing temperatures. This class is intended to help you understand your practice as an artist better so that you can continue to grow and problem solve!
