Make a dinner setting with a plate, cup, bowl, and spoon in your personal art style. We will look to see how artists design dinnerware in a unified motif and learn to use handbuilding techniques to transform slabs of clay using geometric templates, drape molds, and more. We’ll finish with colored slip and glaze so you’re ready for your next big meal.

Draw inspiration from an exhibition in the gallery featuring artworks by Dallas, Texas-based artist Niki Dionne. We will explore mixed-media methods that combine fabrics, paint, yarn, and more. Students will learn to simply and stylize the figure to basic shapes that we will cut from reclaimed fabrics and assemble onto loose canvas. At the end of the week, we’ll learn to stretch and attach our fiber collages to wooden frames to make our figures ready for the wall.
