Visual Arts Education Coordinator


Sydni is an artist and arts educator in Lawrence, Kansas. She’s an all-round “self taught” artist passionate about alternative educational paths in the arts. Sydni works at the Lawrence Arts Center, in Lawrence, KS as the youth visual arts coordinator. She primarily teaches visual arts classes for youth and teens, as well as adults. 

Sydni primarily works with print-based and photographic media, specifically intaglio and alternative photography processes. Her work explores the power of human emotion, and absurdity through self-reflection.

Inspired by our World Cup visiting team from Algeria, build the capital city of Algiers from the ground up this summer. We’ll learn about the unique fusion of North African, tradition Islamic, and French colonist architecture that gives the city its unique charm. Inspired by the highly decorated interiors of landmark buildings and the terraced cafés and shops of Rue Didouche Mourad, campers will assemble to make a kid-sized cityscape in the Main Lobby for our families and friends to tour at the end of the week. (Note: These structures may be too large to take home!)

Go bananas for art history! Young artists will explore legendary movements by reimagining iconic masterpieces with a fruity twist. We’ll paint, sculpt, and sketch from Impressionism to Pop Art, mastering new techniques while creating a whole bunch of "peel-good" masterpieces. No class on Friday, June 19th.

Design a small-scale cardboard building for your toys or pets as you work with fellow artists to assemble a mini-metropolis. We'll learn what types of buildings make a community special before building small-scale cardboard structures. Our finished designs will be arranged in the Main Lobby for family and friends to visit at the end of the week.
