Maeve Hilgers is an artist and art educator from small town, Southern Kansas, who has lived in Lawrence for the past 7 years. She graduated in 2021 from KU with a bachelors in Visual Art Education and has been working in community art education and focusing on her ceramics practice since. Her ceramics are often functional, and usually inspired by her love for plants, animals, and the natural world. She also brings influence from other art mediums into her clay practice such as tattoo styles, printmaking and painting. You can often find her and her work at local art markets around town.

In this special camp, we will explore the universe through a blend of Dance and Visual Arts instruction. Campers will investigate the solar system and beyond to make artworks and dance moves inspired by the physics and beauty of meteor showers, weightless astronauts, swirling galaxies, and more. At the end of the week, we’ll debut our celestial dance moves and astronomical artworks to our family and friends with a special performance.

This camp will introduce students to the skills needed to create a pot on the wheel with guided instruction as we practice creating functional forms. When not on the wheel, students can explore hand-building techniques to create small objects and sculptures.

Make a dinner setting with a plate, cup, bowl, and spoon in your personal art style. We will look to see how artists design dinnerware in a unified motif and learn to use handbuilding techniques to transform slabs of clay using geometric templates, drape molds, and more. We'll finish with colored slip and glaze so you're ready for your next big meal.
