Maeve Hilgers is an artist and art educator from small town, Southern Kansas, who has lived in Lawrence for the past 7 years. She graduated in 2021 from KU with a bachelors in Visual Art Education and has been working in community art education and focusing on her ceramics practice since. Her ceramics are often functional, and usually inspired by her love for plants, animals, and the natural world. She also brings influence from other art mediums into her clay practice such as tattoo styles, printmaking and painting. You can often find her and her work at local art markets around town.

Learn to create handbuild forms with intricately illustrated surfaces full of animals, landscapes, or abstract designs. We'll learn decorative techniques and use specialized tools to carve and draw onto soft clay and paint with underglazes onto fired pots.

This class is designed for beginning clay students who want to learn basic wheel throwing skills. This class will cover wedging, centering, wheel throwing, trimming, and glazing while making functional objects like cylinders, mugs, bowls, and plates.
