Erika Kjorlie Geery

Visual Arts Instructor


Erika Kjorlie Geery is an artist, photographer, filmmaker, writer, stylist, performer and educator. Erika worked in the commercial photography, music and film industries in Austin, TX after graduating from Washburn University in 2001. She has been a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority Incorporated since the spring of 1993. Erika served as Vice President of the Darkroom Co-op in Austin. She taught alternative process photography workshops at the University of Texas at Austin’s Architecture Department. Her photography and artworks have been published in print media throughout Texas and Kansas. Her work is owned and collected by art lovers throughout Hollywood and the rest of the world. She served as Elementary and Middle School Judge for the 2019 Lawrence Vanguard Awards at the Lawrence Arts Center. She was an Artist Inc Fellow in 2021. Erika is a board member of the Lawrence Percolator. Her filmmaking career to date has consisted of many roles including, art director, costume designer, prop stylist, stylist, stills and production photographer, and actor. She is an author, activist and educator. Erika currently teaches art at Raintree Montessori School and the Lawrence Arts Center.

Express your unique style as we create fashionable looks and capture them with digital photography. We'll build and model outfits using vintage and costume clothing while learning to take striking photos using ambient street lighting and carefully composed studio lighting.

Learn to tell visual stories with original characters or fan fiction. We'll spend time sketching storyboards and designing characters, then work to produce a colorful panel page using alcohol markers, pen and ink.
