Dance Program Coordinator/ Choeographer


Claire Buss is a Salt Lake City native and a graduate of the University of Kansas. Claire has been dancing since she was three, and teaching since 2019. Her favorite styles of dance are jazz and hip hop. She is so happy to be a part of the dance staff at the Lawrence Arts Center!

The Jazz Dance program features various styles of jazz including classic, Broadway, and contemporary. Beginning students focus on building rhythm, coordination, and character skills until they are ready for syncopation movements, body isolations, dynamic leaps, suspended turns, and stylized choreography. This intermediate/advanced-level class aims to develop the dancer's ability to produce dynamic leaps, turns, kicks, body part isolation, syncopation, counter rhythm, and perform stylized choreography. Students in this class have the option to participate in the Winter Dance Sharing on Dec. 4 This class will not meet on 10/31

Based on the original principles of hip hop--love, peace, unity, and having fun--these classes are filled with choreography and cover a wide range of movement styles. This high-energy class infuses the foundation of hip hop with an emphasis on foot rhythm, weight transfer, and mixture of styles and choreography.
