Youth Visual Arts

I am a Lawrence, Kansas native, born & raised. I am an educator, artist, and mother. As an educator, one of my highest priorities for children is to empower and inspire them to appreciate their own unique worth, ideas, and abilities. As an artist, I enjoy experimenting and creating with many mediums. My most intimate medium is poetry–painting portraits of my mind with words. I also enjoy combining aspects of visual arts with poetry. On another line, I am a professional henna artist. I draw significant inspiration from the natural world, music, emotion, and human beings traveling along in the dance of life. My philosophy: Living, in itself, is the most grand and epic expression and curation of one's art.

Learn about Mehndi, the long tradition of creating decorative designs on hands, feet, and the body using the dried leaves of the henna plant. We’ll look to traditional designs from India, Africa, Pakistan, and other places throughout the world before creating original designs on paper and then our hands or feet using traditional and contemporary tools and materials.
