Alicia Kelly

Alicia Kelly was born and raised among the red dirt and wildflowers of Northeastern Oklahoma. Her love of the paper medium developed alongside her love of pattern making and serigraphy. With evolving plans of each cut and fold, her papercut works become a collaboration of focus, meditation and design.

Alicia has exhibited nationally and internationally- her most recent exhibitions include: The Salina Art Center (KS), Weinberger Fine Art Gallery (MO), Bunnell Street Arts Center (AK) and OpenBox, Porto, Portugal. Alicia has been an active member of The Paper Artist Collective and Guild of American Papercutters since 2017. She currently works out of her home studio in Lawrence, Kansas.

Learn to create intricate cut-paper designs with an X-Acto knife in this camp that will provide first-hand insight into this unique art form with instruction from Lawrence cut-paper artist Alicia Kelly and Zoom conversations LAC exhibiting artist Rosa Leff. Each student will create an original, framed, cut-paper design inspired by investigative walks down Mass Street with our sketchbooks or cameras.

This 4 week crash course investigates the possibilities of cut paper in the two dimensional and three dimensional form. Experimenting with cut paper stencils, folding and sculpting techniques, this class introduces students to the versatility of various types/styles of paper. In these workshop style classes and follow-along demos, students will leave the class with a framed one-of-a-kind cut paper piece and a greater understanding of the paper medium. Let’s get Cutting!
