Our Ceramic studio internship is an unpaid position that offers a unique opportunity to work with our community of accomplished ceramic instructors, staff members, and our annual Ceramic Artist-in-Residence. We are looking for someone with a drive to gain additional experience in helping run and maintain an active community clay studio. This position includes assistance in portfolio and professional development.

An ideal candidate should have a BFA in Ceramics or an equivalent experience in the field of ceramics. Applicants must be self-motivated, have strong communication and organizational skills, and work well with others. Also, at times this position is physically demanding and requires them to be able to lift 50lbs of materials. 

  • 9 hours/week (flex time) in ceramic studio assistance & maintenance which may include but is not limited to: 
    • Monitoring and refilling chemicals and other consumable materials
      • Glazes, Dry materials, Underglazes, oxide washes,
    • Loading/ unloading student work from kilns
    • Assist with equipment maintenance (kiln shelves, posts, etc.) 
    • Assist with visiting artists programming & planning
    • Assist with AIR in special projects, as needed
    • Assist with long-term improvement projects for the shop
    • General clay studio maintenance and cleaning
    • Search for improvements in the shop.
    • Assist with fundraisers such as Souper Bowl, Platter project

 

  • Coordinate with the Ceramic Studio Coordinator, Artist in Residence or the Director of Residencies and Adult Education to determine the priorities and hours for the week.

This is an unpaid internship, for college credit or experience only

  • One free class per session (3 sessions per over the next 6 months)

Position requirements

  • Over the age of 18
  • A high school diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Some ceramic experience, either courses completed or evidence of self-teaching
  • Enjoy making art and have an interest in learning more about ceramics
