Red tape, red flag, seeing red, painting the town red. What does it mean to represent the color red? Often, we associate the color red with intense emotion or a warning. Other times, we think of flowers, birds, or hearts. The Lawrence Arts Center invites artists to submit artwork that relates to the subject/color “red.” The subject/color “red” is open to the artist’s interpretation.

Travis Millard is an American artist, musician, and founder of Fudge Factory Comics. His work spans over twenty years of self-published zines, gallery exhibitions, and notable commercial projects. Illustrations have appeared in Playboy, The Hollywood Reporter, Mad Magazine, Wired, and many more. Travis’ work has also been featured on record covers for Dinosaur Jr, Kurt Vile, Aesop Rock, The Get Up Kids, and others. Recently, Travis produced & art directed the indie video game “Freedom Finger” ~ a bat$#%! crazy space shooter ~ out now on PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch, and Steam.

Application Requirements:
Images of accepted works may be used at the sole discretion of the Lawrence Arts Center for promotional purposes, including, but not limited to, the invitation, website use, or a subsequent year’s prospectus. The image will include artist attribution whenever possible. The artist retains copyright.
Exhibition Schedule:
August 1, 2026: Slideroom portal is open for submissions.
September 25, 2026: Deadline for entries.
October 5 – 9, 2026: Participation notifications are sent by email.
October 10 – 21, 2026: Artwork delivered to the Lawrence Arts Center
October 30, 2026: Opening Reception and Awards, 5-7 pm
December 12, 2026: Closing Reception, 5-7 pm
December 14-17, 2026: Pick up artwork at the Lawrence Arts Center.
