Auditions | In Frame, A Dance Journey through the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art

Calling Ballet, Tap, Chinese Dance, Contemporary, Jazz, Irish Dance, Hip Hop, and Modern dancers ages 6 thru Adult (grades 1 and up) to audition for an original multi-genre dance production!

Dancers ages six (first grade) or older and adults of all ages are invited to audition for In Frame, an original, multi-genre dance production directed and choreographed by Liat Roth and choreography from additional School of Dance Faculty.

When a family visits Kansas City’s Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art, they never imagine becoming a part of the artwork themselves. But if they each fall into a different painting, how will they find each other again? Join us for the School of Dance’s annual spring multi-genre production as we dance from frame to frame, bringing the art of the Nelson-Atkins to life through ballet, tap, jazz, Irish dance, and more. 

How to Audition

• Arrive 30 minutes prior to your audition time.
• Dress wearing appropriate dance attire.
• Applicants should bring all dance shoes they currently own.
• No prepared material is required to audition.
• Youth are required to be actively enrolled in a dance class at any dance studio/school.
• No additional requirements for adults.
• Registration is required by January 8.

Saturday, Jan. 10 | General Call
10:00 am | 12-18yrs (Grades 6-12) – Equivalent levels Ballet Vb-VII; Tap III-IV, Jazz III, Hip Hop III, Modern II, Irish III-IV
12 pm | 11-18yrs (Grades 5-12) – Equivalent to Ballet IV-Va (will not include a segment of pointe work), Teens Ballet, Contemporary Movement III-IV, Modern I, Chinese Dance, Irish
2:30 pm | 6-9yrs (Grades 1-2) – Equivalent to Intro to Ballet & Ballet I, Jazz I, Hip Hop I, Tap I
3:30 pm | 9-12yrs (Grades 3-4) – Equivalent to Ballet II-III, Jazz II, Tap II, Hip Hop II, Contemporary Movement I-II

Sunday, Jan. 11
1-2:30pm | Call Backs
2:30-3:30pm | Adults (ages 18yrs and up, intermediate/advance with at least 2 years of experience)

Rehearsals

Attending all rehearsals is required.

Regular rehearsals will be scheduled on either Fridays (4:30-7 pm), Saturdays (1:45-6 pm), and Sundays (1-5 pm) starting Jan. 24 through March 9.

Full Cast Tech Rehearsals | Monday through Thursday, March 9-12, 4:30-9 pm

Cast Registration Required: 26WDYIF, $165 participation fee, January 21 required. Financial Aid is available for eligible participants.
