Nic Dikin is a studio glass artist, and his work is primarily focused on functional forms made with intricate patterns and bright colors. The work featured in Molten Lines is made using many traditional Italian techniques, such as Cane and Murrine, while also applying various techniques pioneered during the American Studio Glass Movement. The bold lines and bright colors you are able to achieve in the medium have always mesmerized Nic. These pieces work as a sort of “canvas” for him to explore the never-ending possibilities of patterns. He heats and stretches the glass to make elements that are later placed in a mosaic-style pattern. From there, they are slowly heated up and fused on a cast-iron plate. After that, Nic rolls them onto a blow pipe, carefully closing the bubble off, and melting away any remaining texture. From that point, the blowing process takes over as it normally would, depending on the desired form.
Artist Biography
Nic Dikin is a glass artist native to Kansas. He began his journey in glass at Emporia High in 2010 with Alan Keck. He continued at Emporia State University, where he received a BFA with an emphasis in Glass Forming.
