Join us for a conversation with Coach Marian Washington and KU basketball great Lynette Woodard about Washington’s new book, FIERCE: My Fight For Nothing Less. They will be interviewed by Maggie Mahood, who served as an assistant coach under Ms. Washington.
Doors will open at 6pm, and the program will begin at 6:30pm, with book signing to follow.
Coach Washington was called the “Jackie Robinson of collegiate women’s basketball coaching” by the Washington Post in 2022. She became the first female African American head coach at a predominantly White institution at the Division I level when KU hired her in 1973. A year later she was named KU’s first women’s athletics director. Over 31 years she coached Kansas women’s basketball to 560 wins, 11 NCAA Tournament appearances and two Sweet 16s. The Raven Book Store will sell copies of FIERCE at the event. Registration is requested.
