In a pre-professional dance company, aspiring ballet dancers can prepare for the world of professional ballet (or simply enjoy regularly performing) with a well-rounded dance education in many different styles, including contemporary, jazz, tap, and more. With Lawrence Ballet Theatre, dancers have the chance to fine tune their craft and experience a more dedicated dance community.

Pre-professional ballet dancers receive dance instruction to expand knowledge of classical ballet and advanced skills, like pointe. Supplemental dance instruction enhances a dancer’s understanding, fitness, and capabilities in ballet. Each year, members of the Lawrence Art Center’s pre-professional dance company attend the Regional Dance America/Midstates Festival. This provides an amazing opportunity to gather with a large ballet community and experience personal growth and creativity.

The Lawrence Ballet Theatre pre-professional ballet company is open to dancers aged 11 or older. Membership is based on certain requirements, including but not limited to:

• Auditioning
• 3 technique classes per week
• Attend weekly company rehearsals
• Have availability scheduled performances and events

Female company members are required to dance en pointe, or be working towards dancing en pointe. We also ask company members to participate in special workshops and master classes, work with professional guest choreographers, and present performances in the community.
