2025-2026 Ceramics Artist in Residence

Be-Longing explores the human desire for community and connection through handmade pottery, celebrating the authenticity and tactile imperfections of the hand.

Central to Jason’s practice is an exploration of community and connection through tactile mark-making. His ceramic vessels serve as vehicles for connecting with others: objects meant to be held, carrying the traces of his hands into others’ hands. Through working with clay and engaging in collaborative public participation, Jason emphasizes the physicality of the hand and the intimacy embedded in each gesture. This approach allows his work to become an archive of the uniqueness and evidence of the human hand.

This focus on the hand is further amplified through soda firing, a process that accentuates surface, indentation, and irregularity. The resulting textures heighten both tactile and visual engagement, allowing each vessel to emerge with its own character. Like people, no two pieces are the same; each bears its own idiosyncrasies, shaped by touch, process, and chance.

Final Friday: June 26 and July 31, 6-9 pm
