Lawrence Ballet Theatre Auditions
Lawrence Arts Center’s School of Dance proudly presents
May 16 | 7pm
May 17 | 11am, 4:30pm, 7pm
We are excited to have you in the audience to experience the educational achievements of our students. This weekend we celebrate over 68 performing groups, 398 individuals enrolled in the Dance Program, 4 dedicated seniors, and what we love – dance. It was in 1985 when dance became one of the core programs of the Arts Center under the direction of Candi Baker. With this in mind, we are thrilled to announce that this is our 40th anniversary of the Dance Program. So much to celebrate!
Laying the foundation for a lifelong love of dance is our remarkable 19 dance faculty members who are the true classroom leaders. This group is owed much gratitude for being dance educators and sharing their passion with the community. We also recognize our dance assistants who serve as peer models to the next generation of movers.
We also recognize our graduating seniors – Rhubarb Brubacher, Zana Kennedy, Celeste Stinson, and Jahnava Sibilla. Each has made remarkable achievements in the field of dance, setting themselves apart for their numerous skills, and especially their performance skills. Watching these students grow since their first dance classes has been an incredible experience and we’re excited to see what they do next on their journey. They will be missed!
Each year I’m reminded of the gifts provided by our community members, artists, teachers, students, staff members, volunteers and partners that have contributed to making this Dance Program special and what it is today. Thank you – especially those who believe a world with the Arts is better than the alternative.
Here’s to another 40 years!
Sincerely,
-Hanan Misko

Rhubarb Brubacher
Rhubarb Brubacher (17) has been dancing at the arts center for one million years. During her time here, she has practiced mainly ballet and modern and been a member of Lawrence Ballet Theatre for 7 years. Outside of dance, Rhubarb is editor-in-chief at Lawrence High journalism, spending her school days writing, editing, and going out for coffee (to review for journalism.) In her free time, Rhubarb enjoys watching terrible movies–especially if they are about dance–and eating Birthday Bash ice cream. Committed to keeping the party alive, she plans to pursue a double major in dance and journalism after high school.
Zana Kennedy
Suzana “Zana” Kennedy (18) has been dancing at the art center since the age of six when she performed in the Art Center’s production of “Elfwin Sage”, but started taking classes consistently at the age of eight. During her time at the art center, Zana has primarily studied Ballet, Modern, and Contemporary, and has been a member of Lawrence Ballet Theatre for seven years. Outside of dancing at the art center, Zana has served as editor-in-chief of The Budget newspaper, played violin in Symphonic and Chamber orchestras, and been involved in the National Honor Society at Lawrence High School. Zana will be attending Washington University in Saint Louis in the fall. Although she does not plan to major in dance, she will be actively involved in the university’s dance program.
Celeste Stinson
Celeste Stinson (18) is a senior at Lawrence High School and has been dancing at the Lawrence Arts Center since she was three years old. During her fifteen years in the School of Dance, Celeste has trained in a variety of styles, including ballet, modern, and contemporary. Celeste joined Lawrence Ballet Theatre in 2018 and has been a member for seven years. Aside from dancing, Celeste participates in LHS’s fine arts program and enjoys painting about her years of ballet. She has won numerous awards for her artwork, including a national silver medal from the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, as well as the Lawrence Arts Center’s own 2D Vanguard Award for 2025. Next year, Celeste plans to attend Carleton College and is undecided on her major, though she hopes to continue dancing through Carleton’s repertory dance company, Semaphore.
Jahnava Sabilla
Jahnava Sibilla is a senior at the Lawrence Arts Center, where she has danced for over 10 years. She is also a company member of Lawrence Ballet Theatre and Regional Dance America, with which she has performed and choreographed. She has additionally attended dance intensives with Kansas City Ballet, Joffrey Ballet, National Choreography Intensive, and Colorado Ballet. She will graduate from Baldwin High School and attend the University of Missouri-Kansas City this fall, studying at the Conservatory as a Dance major, and hoping to additionally double major in Psychology.
