Roger Shimomura | Select Prints

Roger Shimomura’s style combines his childhood love of comic books and interest in American pop art with the traditions of Japanese woodblock prints, resulting in a contemporary American presentation that references his Japanese ancestry. His vibrant art conveys messages about politics, society, racism, and stereotypes, sparking conversation about Asian American identities.

Artist Biography 

Born in 1939 in Seattle, resides in Lawrence, KS.

Roger Shimomura received a B.A. degree from the University of Washington, Seattle, and an M.F.A. from Syracuse University, New York. He has had over 150 solo exhibitions of paintings and prints, as well as presented his experimental theater pieces at venues such as the Franklin Furnace, New York City, Walker Art Center, Minneapolis, and the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC.
