INSIGHT Art Talk | Mike Brehm
Join us for an evening with artist, Mike Brehm, as he discusses his solo show, My Ship at See!
Mike Brehm graduated from the Minneapolis College of Art and Design in 1978 with a bachelor’s degree in painting and printmaking. In 1979 he moved to Chicago, became greatly enamored of the Hairy Who and the Monster Roster, and exhibited in the collective art magazines Artpolice, Storyhead, and Stare Magazine and galleries in Chicago, Minneapolis, and Los Angeles. In 2013 he had a solo exhibition at the Pottsville Museum in Pottsville Pennsylvania called Mike Brehm: Beautiful Line. Brehm has published four books since 2006. One was awarded a place in the 2006 AIGA annual best-of-exhibit national competition 50 Books / 50 Covers. In 2022 Brehm had an exhibit at the Lawrence Public Library called Decoys, Detours, and Destinations.
Brehm worked for the University of Chicago Press as a book designer from 1989 to 2019. He is now a full-time artist and part-time book designer and lives with his wife Susan Phillips, also an artist, in Lawrence Kansas.
