In 1988, the Bizarre Bazaar was born in the home of Nan Rembarger, one of the founding mothers, along with Dixie Lubin, Jenn Veerkamp, Laura Ramberg, Ardys Ramberg, Nancy Hubble and Paula Ware. They often did art together and decided to have an open house to sell their art, especially their quirky art, thus the name.
In the early 90’s they moved to the Lawrence Art Center when it was in the Carnegie Building, and followed the center to the new building where it happens to this day.
We want to strive to continue the spirit of artists getting together and putting on an open house, even if the house is much larger. Nan calls it the “hippie love vibe” which started this whole show.
Bizarre Bazaar takes place Friday evening (5-9 pm) and Saturday (9 am-5 pm) of Thanksgiving weekend. It’s a great place to start holiday shopping and to support local artists.
