Announcing the School of Dance Associate Director: Eleanor Goudie-Averill 
headshot-ellie-goudie-averillOn August 15th, Eleanor Goudie-Averill will join the Lawrence Arts Center as School of Dance Associate Director. After serving as Dance Education Resident in 2015/16, Ms. Goudie- Averill will continue to assist with providing Dance Education throughout the greater community of Lawrence.

Eleanor Goudie-Averill, a 2007 MFA Dance Performance graduate of the University of Iowa, spent the past year as Dance Education Specialist at the Lawrence Arts Center. She returned to the Midwest from Philadelphia, where she performed extensively with Group Motion Multimedia Dance Theater, MacArthur Dance Project, and SCRAP Performance Group, and taught for four years at Temple University. She has danced in works by José Limón, Bill Young, Susan Rethorst, and Lucinda Childs. Since 2007, she has co-directed the Stone Depot Dance Lab and her choreography has been shown in NYC, Philadelphia, and throughout the Midwest at venues such as Movement Research at the Judson Church, the A.W.A.R.D. Show, and the Folly Theater. Ellie currently performs with Tori Lawrence + Co, and will be dancing in TL+Co’s upcoming performance here at the Lawrence Arts Center on November 4-5.


2016-17 Student Information and Policy Meetings
Parents and Guardians of students enrolled in youth dance classes are required to  attend a Student Information and Policy Meeting, held on August 20, 2016 in the Blackbox Theatre. This meeting is an opportunity for new and returning families to meet with School of Dance staff in person and to gain crucial information regarding our policies and events. Please attend a meeting that corresponds with your child’s age/grade:

10AM: Ages 3 – Kindergarten
11AM: 1st – 4th Grade
12PM: 5th Grade & Up

logo-assists-foundationASSISTS Dance Scholarships for Young Men
Funded in part by a grant from the Assists Foundation, the School of Dance is thrilled to announce a new scholarship for young men who demonstrate strong interest in the field of dance. Applicants must be between 9-18 years of age to be eligible. Partial and full scholarships can be used for ballet, jazz, tap, modern, contemporary, and hip-hop classes during the Fall 2016-Winter/Spring 2017 semesters. There is no application deadline. The Nutcracker: A Kansas Ballet
Auditions for The Nutcracker, A Kansas Ballet

Calling all dancers ages 6-26 years and adults of all experience levels to audition for The Nutcracker, A Kansas Ballet. Based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s original story and set in Lawrence, Kansas during the Civil War era, this newly envisioned ballet production tells the story of how Drosselmeyer and Clara liberate the wooden Nutcracker soldier from the clutches of the Mouse King. This family production is for audiences of all ages. Be part of this winter seasonal favorite in its new iteration!

Please arrive 30 minutes prior to audition time. Attending the audition is FREE, and no prepared materials are required to audition.  Dancers should arrive in appropriate dance attire and be ready to move.

FA-DYNKB $145.00 ($130.50) participation fee. No fee for adults or Lawrence Ballet Theatre company members.
