We’ll see you in 2021 for The Nutcracker, A Kansas Ballet

With careful consideration for our common health and wellbeing during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lawrence Arts Center has joined the ranks of dance companies across the nation in making the difficult decision to put on hold our seasonal holiday production. The Nutcracker, A Kansas Ballet is one of Lawrence’s preeminent annual performances, as well as the Arts Center’s most cherished holiday tradition. We are looking forward with hope and excitement to its return in 2021, when we can mount this production in a way that is safe for our performers, audiences and community.

Although our traditional Nutcracker production will not be held this year, we remain hard at work preparing exciting and safe events for our theatre audiences. Upcoming productions include:

Trick or Treat Masquerade – An interactive film featuring the Lawrence Ballet Theatre | Oct. 29-31

Madeline at the Carnival – A film featuring the Lawrence Ballet Theatre | Dec. 10-13
For our dancers and choreographers, we are hosting two free events:

The Lawrence Grasshopper – A short film featuring the Kansas Nutcracker Grasshoppers. Must attend in-person or virtual auditions on Sept. 26.

School of Dance’s Virtual Student Choreography Showcase – Reserved for students 3rd grade through adult who are enrolled in the Lawrence Arts Center School of Dance.

More information about each of these four productions will be posted online as it becomes available.

Facing the uncertainty and adversity caused by this crisis, we at the Lawrence Arts Center are certain that creativity, connection and community are more important than ever. We believe that the power of the arts will sustain us by strengthening our bonds as individuals, neighbors and a community. Right now, this belief is what fuels us to create new platforms to connect, convene and uplift. If ever there was a time for the arts, it is now.

To the future,
Margaret, Hanan and the Lawrence Arts Center School of Dance
