School of Dance: Spring Newsletter

Updated Mask Policy

Based on new CDC guidelines and recommendations we’ve received from the Lawrence Douglas County Health Department; the Lawrence Arts Center has updated its mask recommendations.

Starting March 28th face masks will no longer be required to enter our building. However, students and staff in the Preschool and Kindergarten will continue to wear masks because the people involved in these programs are considered a vulnerable population.

Learn how to break, mix, mc, and dj. Become a b-boy or b-girl for a week and discover the rich history and fun culture of hip hop! Enroll here!

June 27- July 1 | Take Me to the Ballet Camp with Shannon Pickett

Slip on your dance shoes and experience the magical world of classical ballet. Learn famous dance steps as you take flight over Swan Lake, awaken the Sleeping Beauty, and help Cinderella find her slipper. Then, use your imagination to help create an original ballet to perform on the last day of camp. No story ballet is complete without a costume, so you will be crafting your very own tutu and other accessories to wear for your performance. See you at the ballet! Enroll here.

July 11-22 | Where the Sidewalk Ends Camp with Paige Comparato and Shannon Pickett

This July, the Summer Dance Performance camp takes a trip to Where the Sidewalk Ends. Using a variety of dance genres, participants will bring to life the whimsical and creative poetry of beloved author Shel Silverstein. Dancers will work with all aspects of the production, from sets to choreography to costumes. This two week camp will culminate in a performance for family and friends. Bring a hearty snack – you will be busy! Enroll here.

July 25-29 | Movers, Shakers & Makers Camp in Collaboration with Youth Visual Arts

Get creative in the studios this summer! Young artists will be inspired each week by a different theme as we explore a wide range of art media and techniques. Morning and afternoon projects are always different and fun, allowing young artists to pair a morning and afternoon to make full-day! Campers are encouraged to bring a prepared snack. Those that choose to stay all day should bring a sack lunch & drink to join our supervised ‘lunch bunch’.

This collaborative camp will mix together specialized Dance and Visual Arts instruction to get us moving and shake up our ideas as we make art all about movement, rhythm, and pattern. Campers will spend part of each day learning to bust a move in the Dance Studios and then apply that dance experience to visual works of art as we stamp out patterns, paint swirling lines, and use our whole bodies to draw and paint.
