School of Dance Happenings the Month of August

The School of Dance is gearing up for a lively Fall semester! Be in the know, take time to read the New to Fall welcome letter/weekly class scheduleWe have new faculty members joining us this fall, which means additional classes! Also new this fall is our School of Dance Coordinator, Amy Hope. Lawrence Ballet Theatre will be celebrating its 10th Anniversary throughout the 2019-2020 season. Please stay tuned for commemoration details throughout the year. In the meantime, get your tickets to Madeline’s Rescue, directed by Cindy Crews and performed by members of LBT.

August 4 | Non-Member (open) Enrollment Begins

Welcome all dancers! At the Lawrence Arts Center School of Dance, we provide an extensive program of dance classes and performance opportunities for movers of all ages! From Chinese Classical Dance to Wee Dance, there is a class for everyone! Open enrollment is available online and at the front desk as of August 4, 2019.

Don’t forget to take advantage of the New Dance Bundle Discount online and at the front desk!

In response to your feedback, we are pleased to announce a simplified enrollment process and fee structure!
Starting this fall, families who enroll in 3 or more dance classes will receive a Dance Bundle Discount of 25% off all dance class tuition, at the front desk and now conveniently automatically applied online!

Multiple enrollment dance class discount:

  • Enroll in 3 or more eligible weekly dance classes at the same time and receive 25% off the public enrollment price for each class.
  • Discount can be applied to families who meet minimum enrollment.
  • Not eligible to combine with other discounts, including the 10% membership discount.
  • If you drop a class and fall below the 3 class threshold, you will lose your eligibility and be charged for the difference.
  • Financial aid and scholarship recipients are not eligible for the bundle discount.
  • Discount can only be applied to weekly dance classes. (Cannot be applied to LBT, camps/workshops, or performance production fees.)

Meet the staff, tour the facilities, and kick off the Fall semester! Join us as as we begin the new semester surrounded by our dance community. Learn about our exciting dance season and most important policies. Don’t forget to stop by the swap before or afterwards to save a few bucks while getting ready for your current or next year’s Level Attire.

Sept 2 | No Classes (Labor Day)

Sept 7 | Nutcracker, A Kansas Ballet Auditions, 10:00- 5:00 pm

1-12 Grade & Adults

Calling all dancers in 1-12 grade and adults who enjoy movement to audition for Arts Center’s The Nutcracker, A Kansas Ballet. This production is based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s original story and set in Lawrence, Kansas during the Civil War era. This newly envisioned ballet production tells the story of how Drosselmeyer and Clara liberate the Nutcracker from the clutches of the Mouse King. This family production is for audiences of all ages. Be a part of this winter seasonal favorite! Auditions are Saturday Sept. 7. Be sure to pre-register online. Read here for audition times by age and level.

Based on Ludwig Bemelmans’ book, Lawrence Ballet Theatre presents the story of Madeline’s Rescue. When Madeline’s antics land her in the river Seine, a stray dog she befriended comes to her rescue. The 12 little girls give the dog a home where the love and adventures grow. Last year’s performance sold out, so mark your calendars now!
