Tressa Jones – 2016/17 Printmaking Artist in Residence

What was your favorite part of this residency?

“It’s been awesome to have this time to work on continuing themes from grad school. The access to the studios and facilities is great. Being able to practice different teaching techniques and demos for classes has been very good.”

What about things outside of art?

“There is already a network of people here, a social life kind of built into this residency. There are so many things going on at the Arts Center to participate in.”

How about Lawrence?

“I’d never been to Kansas before, so I was a little nervous, but it’s a very easy town to settle into. When I tell people why I’m here they understand and are excited about it. I don’t have to explain. That’s really cool.”

You’ve got your exhibit coming up. Excited?

“Yes! Having a deadline is great. And a clean, professional space to work with is very fortunate.”

Anything else you would like people to know?

“This residency is an awesome opportunity; it is rare to find something like this.”

Carly Slade – 2016/17 Ceramics Artist in Residence

What was your favorite part of this residency?

“Meeting everyone and being a part of the community. Getting to know Lawrence.”

How do you like Lawrence?

“Moving to Kansas was scary, but Lawrence is amazing. The community is supportive and I feel like I’m a part of it already.”

What did the LAC offer you?

“The most important thing the LAC offered me was a safe and welcoming environment to try things out and experiment. Because of this I feel comfortable to go for something big and crazy for my show. I’m reminded everyday how awesome it is to be here”

Anything else you would like people to know?

“This is a great program and you should apply! The facilities, the community and the financial support are just awesome. If I could apply again I would.”
