Opportunities for Dancers to Keep Moving Through the End of the Year

Winter/Spring Enrollment Coming Soon – Interim Dance Classes Bridge the Gap

Winter and Spring classes are just around the corner. Until then, the School of Dance has you covered and will keep you moving and grooving now through the end of the year! Interim classes will begin December 1 with Inter/Advanced Ballet (for students level V-VII ) and Afro-Caribbean Fitness. Interim dance classes are a great way to stay conditioned between semesters. For our younger dancers, consider picking up one of our Surprise! Dance Kits. We are offering video/craft/dance adventures that are boxed, wrapped and ready for your little dancer at home.

The School of Dance will kick off the New Year and Winter/Spring semesters on January 17! In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, dance classes will not be held on Monday, January 18, but will resume on January 19.

Students of dance are required to enroll each semester before attending class. Peruse class listings now for the upcoming semester in the Winter/Spring online catalog here. Once registered, you will receive an email confirmation. Approximately a week before class begins, we will send a second email with details regarding Zoom and password login information for virtual and hybrid classes with class-specific instructions including space and equipment recommendations as well as attire requirements.

Course capacity is limited, and in-person participation is subject to the guidelines set forth by the KDHE and Lawrence-Douglas County Health Department. Students have the option of participating virtually from home via the Virtual Dance Portal. Some classes will be held in a hybrid model alternating in-person and virtual participation per an A/B rotation schedule. View the School of Dance Handbook on the School of Dance Homepage for important information.

Lawrence Arts Center’s Health & Safety Guidelines for Phased Re-Opening

Because we care deeply about health and safety for all, we are committed to being mindful about our physical spaces, as well as how we interact with each other. In response, we will closely follow the phased guidelines for public health as outlined by the State of Kansas and Douglas County. All persons must perform a COVID self-screening prior to entering the Lawrence Arts Center and the space formerly known as Studio 720 (new address is 840 Delaware St, #8). For screening questions and additional information related to our building policies, please visit the Health and Safety Guidelines for Phased Re-Opening page.

Don’t Forget the Dance Bundle Discount!

Individuals and families who enroll in three or more weekly dance classes receive 25 percent off all dance tuition. Discount pricing can be applied when enrolling online or with the front desk. Families wishing to set up a payment plan and/or apply for financial aid will still need to do so by contacting the front desk staff. The dance bundle discount cannot be combined with any other discount.

Surprise! Dance Kits To-Go

You may already be familiar with the Arts Center’s visual art a la carte kits, but did you also know we also have dance kits to move you through a world of adventure? Packed with mystery boxes, these fun kits are filled with surprise materials to make your own props, and videos to guide you through movements. Best of all, you can do them at your own pace with your family, friends or with your learning pod! Video duration is approximately 25mins.

School of Dance’s Virtual Student Choreography Showcase

Calling all movement creators from 3rd grade through adult for the first ever Virtual Student Choreography Showcase!

Because we can’t bring the audience to the dance, we’ve decided to take the dance to our audience by hosting this year’s event virtually. Choreographers must be students of the School of Dance. Projects will be rehearsed at home and also in reserved studio space with dancers following health and safety guidelines. The final project will be a video montage of pieces filmed safely on location at the Lawrence Arts Center or in the dancer’s home.

Please visit the Virtual Student Choreography Showcase event page for the application and music submission forms, as well as details outlining choreographic requirements. Deadline to apply online is Monday, December 7.

This virtual event will be shared with fellow dancers, family members, and within our School of Dance community. Spend your holiday enjoying these unique student performances. The virtual showing will take place at 7 pm Saturday, January 9, as part of the Winter Open House Dance Celebration. Further details will be made available in December on the School of Dance homepage.

Fall 2020 Mid-Year Progress Reports

Progress reports are delivered at the end of the Fall and Winter/Spring semesters to those enrolled in full-semester (12-week) youth classes. Please note, not all classes will receive an evaluation. For students whose instructor will issue a progress report, families will receive an email reminder prior to the November holiday break. Stay tuned for further details.
