At the Lawrence Arts Center School of Dance, we provide an extensive program of dance classes and performance opportunities  for movers of all ages! Auditions and Scholarship Opportunities

Assists Dance Scholarships for Young Men 2nd-12th Grade

Funded in part by a grant from the Assists Foundation, the School of Dance is thrilled to continue providing scholarships for young men who demonstrate strong interest in the field of dance. Applicants must be in 2nd-12th grade to be eligible. Partial and full scholarships can be used for ballet, jazz, tap, modern, contemporary, and hip-hop classes during the Fall 2017-Winter/Spring 2018 semesters. September 9-10: Auditions for The Nutcracker, A Kansas Ballet 2017

Sponsored by the Thomas D Galloway Family and TCK- The Trust Company of Kansas

Calling all dancers ages 6-18 and adults to audition for Lawrence classic The Nutcracker, A Kansas Ballet. Based on E.T.A. Hoffman’s original story and set in Lawrence, Kansas during the Civil War era, this newly envisioned ballet production tells the story of how Drosselmeyer and Clara liberate the wooden Nutcracker soldier from the clutches of the Mouse King. This family production is for audiences of all ages. Be part of this winter seasonal favorite!

Please arrive 30 minutes prior to audition time. Attending the audition is FREE, and no prepared materials are required to audition.  Dancers should arrive wearing appropriate dance attire and be ready to move.

 September 16: Company Auditions for Fierce Elements Dance Co.

Calling all Hip Hop dancers in 3rd-12th grade to audition for a brand new hip hop crew, Fierce Elements Dance Co.! Fierce Elements Dance Co. is the newest and freshest Hip Hop dance company to come to Lawrence! Fierce is all about the Funk. This performance based troupe will not only teach the fundamentals of Funk and Hip Hop styles, students will also learn about Hip Hop culture in a safe and inclusive environment. The mission of Fierce Dance Company seeks to provide inspirational performances while enriching the lives of dancers through collaboration and movement.

Audition and Participation

Applicants are required to audition in order to be considered for the company. Auditions are held at the beginning of the Fall & Winter/Spring Semesters. Company members have the option to commit to one or both semesters. Under the artistic direction of Rauly Duenas, company members will gain technical training in Hip Hop and performance experiences in community and urban settings.

Requirements

Junior, and Senior Members must:

  • Be in 3rd – 12th grade
  • Attend 1 Hip Hop class at the Lawrence Arts Center
  • Attend all company weekly rehearsals (1-2 hours per week) and additional rehearsals during performance weeks
  • Be available to perform at scheduled events
  • Participation Fee: $225/per semester, or $400/both Fall & Winter/Spring Semesters.
