The Inventor Grrls are proud to present their end-of-semester projects to the public next Monday, May 21st. Our premiere cohort of six inventors will exhibit their projects in the Main Lobby, offer a short presentation about their process, and participate in a brief Q&A panel. There will be creative inventions of all sorts on display – animations, coded websites, and a robot! Join us as we congratulate these young women and their creative accomplishments. Refreshments provided!

About Inventor Grrls:

National studies show that while the gender gap has narrowed for middle/high school science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) classes, there is still much work to be done in terms of eliminating the disparity between women and men in both academic and professional STEM fields. The Lawrence Arts Center believes that we can combat this issue by bolstering our support of young women and their STEM pursuits. Led by artist Olivia Hernández, our Inventor Grrrls class have cultivated their own curiosities in STEM through training in a variety of technology/design media, identifying both current and historical female role models, and honing their problem solving skills through team exercises and sketchbook reflections. In the last five weeks, Inventors conceived of a STEM project involving either communal or personal challenges, and developed creative solutions to these problems.
