DESCRIPTION:Karen Matheis’ work celebrates movement, memory, and landscape through abstract interpretations. The land around us integrates into our daily lives as we participate in activities such as traveling in a car and running along streets. Viewing landscape as an evolving space fosters exploration that transcends viewing our environment through a picture window. This installation focuses on mobility and migratory patterns. Works use color and movement and include elements of infrastructure and pathways found in geology and cartography. During the work process of creating these paintings, a recognition of holistic views emerges: humans co-exist with nature, and travel is a metaphor as we continuously live in an ephemeral state of time. Opening Reception: Friday, September 11, 5-7pm INSIGHT Art Talk: Wednesday, September 23, 6-7 pm
