DESCRIPTION:Fire Messiah is a bold new musical by Ric Averill and Company that asks a timely question: What happens when we start looking for miracles in the middle of catastrophe? Fire Messiah follows Dan, a firefighter with a troubled past, as he battles increasingly apocalyptic wildfires in a near-future America. After carrying out a miraculous rescue, Dan unwittingly becomes a symbol of hope and is hailed online as the “Fire Messiah.” As faith, politics, climate disaster, and social media collide, Dan and his fellow firefighters—people of multiple faiths, identities, and lived experiences—are drawn together by a shared purpose: to save lives and protect one another in the face of overwhelming fire. Together, they must confront what belief really means, who is granted power, and how we survive collectively when the world is burning. Join us on March 7th for a special concert featuring songs from the musical at the Lawrence Arts Center.
