DESCRIPTION:Explore an ancient painting medium. Students will learn to make egg tempera, mix it with powdered pigments, and be shown a variety of painting techniques. Taught by Connie Ehrlich. This is a free class with a limited number of spots and requires enrollment. <a class="btn-secondary" href="https://lawrenceartscenter.org/class-catalog/paint-with-egg-tempura24fa-701jx00000ggjk2iag/" target="_blank" rel="noopener"><b>FREE Workshop, Registration required, limited availability | November 16, 1-4pm </b></a> Connie Ehrlich's icons are rooted in the 15th century Russian School and based on Byzantine prototypes. To write an icon, she uses egg tempera with natural pigments and genuine gold leaf on a gessoed wood panel. Most art exists in only the physical world. An icon exists in two- the physical and the spiritual world. The icon is a quiet, sacred object. The magical nuances of light, sparkle of gold, and layers of color aluminates with life.
